Cav Turbo Rebuild

Havent been on ere in a while... dont think i ever posted any pics of me motors yet either so here goes, this is my long term pride and joy, doubt i ever sell this car.. some pics of it from 2005 when it was last on the road to start... some of you maybe remember it...

its 93 reg
90k on it
was running pretty much standard jus back box and dump valve, but gathered all the parts now and had the head worked at, so puttin the phase 2 software in and fmic and stuff

smile.gificture3.jpg">

then the rebuild started...

plans were to do the engine up a bit in power and a little stronger and tidy up a smallish dent/scrape i had at pass side but ended up wi lots of new parts and full respray...

some of the main items

arp con rod bolts head studs etc,
steel head gasket,
uprated fuel pump,
uprated spark plugs
front mount intercooler,
silicon hoses
all new timing kit,
water pump
oil pump,
ceramic clutch,
uprated actuator,
new uprated alternator,
phase 2 software,
3.5bar fixed fuel pressure regulator,
irmscher 30mm lowering springs
xe cams.
All filters etc etc
Transfer box oil changed
Coscast head
Camshaft sensor
Coil & module
Fuel pump relay

Also ordered were all the small bits for interior/exterior,
· brand new velour mats,
· flaps,
· badges,
· weatherstrips,
· wiper arms,
· door mouldings,
· new front and rear bumpers and plastic reinforcements,
· new headlights and indicators,
· Clean set of 2nd hand fogs, (new ones are 100quid each, cant justify it at the mo lol (ended up buying new one's anyhow, well worth the extra money wi the new headlights)
· side repeaters,
· one new mirror,
· all the clips for the skirts and door mouldings etc,
· new central lockin module
· new battery

So wi engine out and sorted and back in, it was time to look at the outside, car has always been clean, genuine and straight with original arches etc, but I had a score on the pass side which needed painted, small bit of lacquer peel on the edge of the spoiler which no one would notice but annoyed me and few stone chips on the front. Was easier to respray the car than start tryin to patch the small bits. Friend in Banbridge sorted the prepping and stripping side of things and another friend sorted the painting. Have to say many thanks to these guys theyve done an immense job couldnt have hoped for a better finish anyone looking paintin done I highly recommend them pm and Ill give ye details!!

Once she was stripped of the bumpers and skirts etc was afraid in case wed find a few holes/rot, but happily she was very solid. Few pics of the paintin/strippin

Scrape on pass side

Car before goin for paint (cant really see scrape, but one of those things u know its there it bugs you)

Strippin, bumpers skirts windows, mouldings etc etc all off

Car primed

Just painted

previously the front bumper lip had been cut away a fair bit for clearance on the intercooler and I didnt really like it, so new bumper bought and trimmed as closely as possible, damn good fit

then refurbed the rims and ordered up some new centre caps and bolt covers

some bits and bobs arrived

and the refurbed alloys all wrapped in nice new toyo rubber :)

finally the new fogs are ere

the irmy bushes have been pressed in aswell so the camber shud be sorted for lowering. Hopefully be mot-able in the next few weeks!!!

well mot prep in full swing wi a mate working hard at it as i've bust me back!!! fuel leak cured, exhaust has new clamps, brake lines all cleaned, new frt suspension arms and drop links, the lowering springs are fitted on the frt as frt left had a broken coil, but the rears are a bit loose on full xtension so i'll leave them till after mot, new wipers and all bulbs tested ok

got the new frt headlamps in think they look great, new pass side fog in too but need to get bumper off to do drivers side.

ABS being a pain throwin light on occasionally but hopefully that be sorted, just wax oiling to do (thus the silly vectra rims, save gettin wax oil on the back of the tubby rims, change the frt windows to non tinted items and think its ready to go thru... fingers crossed it passes 1st time!!

whilst i was in the mood workin at it i decided to get it cleaned up a little as inside hadn't been touched in aaaaages, few pics for now

new fog and headlamp

interior cleaning

and of course wi dirty hands i touched roof cloth back pass side... grr

next up for the cleanin treatment... under the bonnet!!!

been pretty busy cleaning up the last of the cosmetic stuff and small touches... got the windows swapped over tonite for mot, abs light is now off too wi sensor sorted, sorted out all the dash lights, drivers new fog light was in (bumper had to come off a bit for it :() wi wax oiling done the refurbed rims went on with the new bolt covers, new centre caps added and wax oiling completed. So, pretty much all set :D

No pics of the other stuff as it was dark by time i got tidied up but as i was up on axle stands got some of the under seal, not very exciting but sure here goes...

and big thanks to this chap, he's done lots and lots for the mot prep, fussy and careful!!! superb work davy!!!

Fresh pics this mornin wi the bits and bobs done...

ragin ordered a lot of the parts about 2.5years ago, amongst them were cav headlamp protectors, went to fit them this mornin, theyre feckinc alibra one, not a major thing seein as i have the cali tho i suppose

new batt cover fitted, not overly happy wi it, i'll replace it at some stage

all the new lights on the front...

refurbed tubby rims and the standard front windows fitted for mot, must remember to ask mot tester to actually chek the back windows with the tint metre see if they would fail

new interior mat set

thats all for now... hopefully be able to update with the tints back in, the rear lowered and boot build singin on full song again before long!!!

sensors i got off ebay were around 8quid each, in the end i didnt need the sensor, what cavalier is it?

you can do the paperclip test to diagnose the faults, it showed mine to be the front left sensor, summat to do wi check resistance and connections, disconnected it sprayed some wd40 on the connection and its been dead on, must have been a little moisture in it after washing underneath and arch liners for wax oil etc.

paperclip test was handy done. did it go thru mot wi the abs light on?

passed mot, fitted the rear lowering springs... looks really nice and level, just on top of the tire!!! loving it, taxed it this morning and drivin away few bits and pieces still to do and some teething problems to overcome

gonn get the turbo stripped off at wkend and get her into stage 1 or so hybrid for some good boost potential!! and ordered some nice new chris astley motorsport turbo oil and water coolant hoses, plan to replace all hoses/breathers with these chris astley kits eventually.

other than that.... it'll be sound sys time by enda the month all being well

well a drive to Omagh y'day seen mot... thankfully it passed wi no probs and was ncie to clock up a few miles on it although as always with these things few teething problems but all being well simple enuff to remedy, have to say i'm lovin drivin it!!!

taxed it this mornin and fired the rear lowering springs in, looks a lot more than 30mm but quite happy wi the drop...

havent been really sendin it on, ceramic clutch takes bit of gettin used to and as it goes to come on boost the batt lights comin on so not sure if i need a new/tightened alternator belt or check the earths/connections!!!

also hopin to get the turbo off this wk and replaced with a hybrid item and some chris astley motorsport oil and water turbo coolant hoses are on the way...

apologies for pic quality... was wet but if a dry spell comes along and i get time to clean it i'll try somewhere scenic!!!!
